International News: 89-Year-Old Grandma Dies After Her Pit Bull Attacked Her

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: An 89-year-old woman in California was killed by her family’s pitbull that attacked her and almost ate her alive, LatinPost reports.

The pit bull mauled Joan Caffiel on Tuesday morning while she was being watched by her caregiver.

Reports indicate that the caregiver left the elderly woman and the dog inside a bedroom as she went to the kitchen. But, she heard a strange noise and when she returned to the room, she saw the dog mauling Caffiel.

The dog had the woman by her neck as he dragged her body to another room.

The caregiver reportedly called the police screaming.

Relatives say that the pit bull had never been aggressive in the 6 years they had him, but a neighbor said that she was always cautious around the dog since its owners would have him unleashed.

The family does not want the dog to be euthanized but it has been turned over to animal control.
