U.S. Embassy in Belize hosts workshop for strengthening LGBTQI+ allyship in Belize

Posted: Saturday, August 13, 2022. 9:00 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, August 13, 2022, the U.S. Embassy in Belize hosted a workshop on mechanisms for strengthening LGBTQI+ allyship in Belize.

The brainstorming session was attended by LGBTQI organizations and Human rights defenders.

Discussions included challenges that stand in the way of inclusion, dignity, and respect for all.

“The power of community can support the freedoms and aspirations of diverse communities everywhere. Human rights are universal, and a person’s ability to exercise their human rights should never be limited based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics,” a statement from the U.S. Embassy said.

“ We continue to stand with those championing equality, respect, and inclusion! Ending violence, discrimination, and stigma against LGBTQI+ persons are attainable,” it added.
