By Breaking Belize News Staff: It has been 17 days since the Supreme Court issued a bench warrant for 25-year-old Tracey Betancourt, who was one of two people accused of the 2018 murder of American Businessman, 49-year-old, Lamont Edward Lipka; however, she remains at large.
Betancourt was jointly charged with 38-year-old, Leon Walford, but unlike Walford, was out on bail in the sum of $50,000.
Walford appeared in court for his trial verdict on July 28, was found guilty but Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft reserved his verdict with respect to Betancourt until she appeared in person.
Police have since issued wanted posters, seeking the public’s assistance in locating her, but efforts thus far have been unfruitful.
Sources tell Breaking Belize News that Betancourt’s surety learned that she planned to abscond shortly before the trial and tried to have the bail revoked, but was unable to do so because Betancourt needed to be present for the revocation process.
Anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts is urged to report it by calling 911, 922, or the nearest police station. Reports can also be made online at www.P3tips.com.
Meanwhile, sentencing for Walford has been set for September 30.
