Second Road Safety Project advisory in response to the fatal traffic accident involving Belize Defence Force soldier

Contributed by the Ministry of Economic Development: The Ministry of Economic Development and the Project Execution Unit of the Second Road Safety Project are dismayed after learning of the fatal traffic incident which took the life of Corporal Roxannie Hill of the Belize Defence Force and injured many others.

Whenever such incidents occur, many lives are negatively impacted; not only physically and financially, but also psychologically by the pain and grief it causes.
Drivers are reminded that whether you are driving alone in a vehicle or with passengers, you are responsible for the safety of other road users. Utmost care must always be taken when using the highways. Drivers are reminded of the following:

1. Drive within the legal speed limit
2. Keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you to ensure you are able to safely stop if necessary
3. Over-take only when the road ahead of you is clear
4. Reduce speed at night to ensure you can stop within the distance your headlight is illuminating
5. ALWAYS use your seatbelt

The Ministry of Economic Development and the Second Road Safety Project Executing Unit extend its condolences to the family of Corporal Hill and wish a speedy recovery to those injured in this incident.
