By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize City’s 501 Stars Academy lost 0-4 to Nicaragua’s Real Estelí in their opening match in the U-17 Central American Football Union’s (UNCAF) Club Championship at the Nicaragua National Football Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.
The team fell behind 1-0 in the first but conceded two late goals in the second half to end up losing 4-0.
In the match featuring 501 Stars Academy’s other Group A rivals, AFFI Academia blanked Xelajú 2-0.
In Group B’s opener Liga Deportiva Alajuelense of Costa Rica blasted Nicaragua’s Zelaya Central 14-0. Group B also includes Panama’s Plaza Amador.
The 501 Stars Academy’s second game in group A will be on Tuesday, August 16, against Honduran club AFFI Academia at 5:15 pm. They close group action against Guatemala’s Xelajú on Thursday, August 18 at 5:15 as well.
The final, the third-place match, and the fifth-place game will be played on Saturday, August 20. If they finish in the top three of the group, 501 Stars Academy will play on closing day. The fourth-place team in the group automatically finishes last and doesn’t play on August 20.
