By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Police Department is optimistic that they will be able to catch Tracey Betancourt, one of two people who were charged with the 2018 murder of American Businessman, 49-year-old, Lamont Edward Lipka.
Betancourt, who was out on bail, has been wanted by police for 18 days after she failed to show up for the verdict in the murder trial, where her co-accused 38-year-old, Leon Walford was found guilty.
Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that, despite some speculation that she absconded to another country, authorities are concentrating their search locally.
“We believe that she is still somewhere in the country,” Williams said.
Betancourt was out on $50,000 bail, which her surety tried to have revoked after learning she did not intend to show up for trial, but the revocation was unsuccessful.
