By Aaron Humes: In a short statement issued this afternoon, Prime Minister John Briceno titled Sunday’s events involving Cristo Rey, Corozal District resident Derrick Uh “a tragedy beyond comprehension.”
The Prime Minister said “no stone will be left unturned in the investigation of events leading to his death. There will be no excuses taken, and no delays in getting to the bottom” of what transpired.
He said he personally grieves with the family and described the circumstances surrounding his death as “heinous and criminal neglect” leading to “a tragedy and a travesty.”
And he concludes, “I am saddened, appalled and disgusted. We all should be. I extend heartfelt condolences to his family.”
Uh was detained by Police for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol at the San Joaquin Fiesta and allegedly inappropriately touching a woman’s buttocks. He was transported to Corozal Town Police Station from 1 a.m. on Sunday but was apparently left inside the police van – resorting to taking his clothes off to try to stay cool – before ultimately dying, his body being discovered around 3 p.m., more than 12 hours later.
