By Aaron Humes: As the internecine struggle in the United Democratic Party (UDP) continues, parliamentarian and former leadership candidate Tracey Taegar-Panton has dismissed as “untrue, a farce, rubbish” suggestions that those “making a stand” for their principles against leadership are “disgruntled”, “power hungry” or simply being “malicious”, writing that these “seeks to provides a deflection of the REAL issues facing the organization.”
Though she never names the organization in question or whom she appears to be fighting against, she is pointed in her criticism of the “upheaval and disunity” within the UDP which she ascribes to “lack of respect for elected officials, governing rules, and the general membership; a lack of fairplay and inclusiveness; the inability of the leadership to bring people together and to build consensus and; most importantly, the lack of a Vision and a Comprehensive Plan on how the leadership intends to move the organization forward,” continuing, “It has NOTHING to do with what may be perceived to be the “aspirations” of any individual member or group of members of the organization.”
Taegar-Panton contends that “The things that we believe are right and just and fair. If we are not prepared to stand up for something we run the risk of falling for anything. No matter the attempts made to undermine or discredit those of us who are prepared to make a stand, we will keep standing. We will Stand Strong. We will Stand Firm.”
Taegar-Panton, after narrowly losing a leadership contest to Moses “Shyne” Barrow earlier this year, said she would not challenge the result in court but has been more critical of Barrow’s leadership since.
