By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport, through the Department of Youth Services (DYS), joined in condemning the “negligent actions perpetrated by the officers on duty who dealt with the arrest of Derrick Uh.”

The DYS says that the actions are regarded as absurd and unacceptable.

The DYS also called on the Belize Police Department to launch both a thorough internal and criminal investigation into the matter.

“The DYS also calls on the police department to initiate and reinforce standard operating procedures when dealing with persons in police custody. Furthermore, the DYS will continue to advocate for the young people of Belize and ensure that they are not deprived of their constitutional rights,” a statement from the department stated.

The Ministry extended sincere condolences to the family of Derrick Uh during this time of bereavement.
