By Breaking Belize News Staff: A fisherman from San Andres Village, Orange Walk District, is challenging charges made against him by the Fisheries Department.

Forty-four-year-old Saul Abiel Tamai appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with possession of undersized conch.

In court, Tamai pleaded not guilty, to the charge, triggering the trial process where the Department will be tasked to prove to the court that the allegations against him are true.

Tamai is due back in court on September 29.

Fisheries personnel say that they caught Tamai on April 7th in a sail boat named “Nayady” at Glover’s Reef Atoll with 32 conchs weighing less than three ounces.
