Jamaican newspaper features Verdes story ahead of Concacaf League game against El Salvador’s Alianza

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Jamaican Observer on Wednesday featured a story about Belizean football champions Verdes entitled ‘Belizean club looks to continue run in Concacaf League’.

The article appeared in today’s edition ahead of tonight’s Scotiabank Concacaf League (SCL) match against El Salvador’s champions Alianza.

“Belizean Premier League club Verdes FC will be hoping to continue their magical run in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League when they face El Salvador’s Alianza in the first leg of the round of 16 here today,” said the Jamaica Observer.

The Jamaican newspaper also mentions that Verdes became the first Belizean team to win an SCL series when they dispatched Salvadoran club Platense on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw earlier this month.

“Another Salvadoran club stands in Verdes’ way of taking another step forward, but with key pieces like attacker Edwin Villeda Bernal, Christian Sanchez, and Camilo Fajardo in the mix, Verdes will fancy their chances at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan,” said the Observer.

“Villeda Bernal had a goal and an assist in the Platense series while Sanchez is currently one of the most accurate passers in the tournament with 94 percent of passes completed.”

Verdes play Alianza tonight at 8:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. The return match is scheduled for next Wednesday in San Salvador.
