By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The torrential rains overnight and on Thursday morning have flooded the Belize City streets.
Among those streets severely affected is Vernon Street particularly from the corner of Youth for the Future Drive to Central American Boulevard.
Also under a lot of water is the northern exit on the Philip Goldson Highway from the Pallotti Junction to Buttonwood Bay Boulevard. The other side of the highway is in much better condition.
The approach to the Pound Yard Bridge is like a river. People coming to work in the downtown area will certainly get wet if the buses don’t find a different stopping spot. Cemetery Road which becomes Orange Street is also underwater in several spots including the sidewalks.
Breaking Belize News (BBN) understands some buses were going all the way to Albert Street to offload passengers.
And so are many other areas of the city like Freetown Road just to mention one. Many streets on the south side of Belize are also inundated.
It stands to reason that many will miss work or at the least be late. Some businesses will not open and sidewalk vendors may not put-up shop.
