Chunox fisherman fined over $10,000 for undersized conch

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Chunox fisherman, Bernabe Tun, is in debt to the court for over $10,000 after being found with undersized conch.

Authorities say that the Corozal resident was caught on board the vessel “Adela T” along with two other people, and 11 undersized conchs were found in his possession.

Tun appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where he wasted no time in pleading guilty to the offense. For his guilty plea, he was given a fine of $10,000 plus the $5 cost of court. He was also charged $50 per piece of undersized conch, totaling $550.

Tun has until December 31, 2022, to pay the fine or he will spend six months in prison.
