Grandmother dies during house fire

By Aaron Humes: One Marlene Wellington of San Ignacio was the victim of a house fire reported Wednesday night in western San Ignacio.

The resident of 18th Street and Swallow Drive alerted family members after thick smoke developed in her bedroom.

According to her daughter, she was able to get her own children out of the house, but was unable to reach her mother and had to get out herself.

Fire personnel responded and extinguished the fire but Wellington had already apparently died in the flames.

Investigations are underway.
