Brodies mourns the death of Leroy Cus

Posted: Friday, August 19, 2022. 5:04 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Brodies is mourning the loss of its employee, 18-year-old Leroy Cus, who was stabbed to death earlier this week.

Brodies issued a statement on its official Facebook page today announcing Cus’s passing and expressing sadness at his loss.

“While Leroy had only been employed at Brodies for a short time his presence was impactful. . Leroy was a hard-working young man, dedicated to fulfilling his goals and creating a better life for himself and his family. He was a good person with a bright future, whose life was taken too soon,” Brodies said. “We here at Brodies will miss his bright smile, calm demeanor, and beautiful personality. On behalf of the management and staff of James Brodie & Co. Ltd., we’d like to express our condolences to his family and friends. Sleep in perfect peace Leroy, we will all miss you more than words can express.”

Cus was a graphic designer at the company.

In the aftermath of his death, the Belizeans are expressing outrage at the fact that he was senselessly killed, but also noting increased levels of fear to perform everyday activities like walking to the bus terminal.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams gave an update earlier today, saying that authorities have found what they believe is the murder weapon, and have detained one person for questioning in connection with the incident.
