By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Beloved art teacher, Barbara Daniela Helbling Flowers has passed away. Barbara taught art at Sacred Heart College for many years and inspired many students with her Art lessons during her tenure.

Barbara migrated to Belize as a young adult and made the Jewel her permanent home after marrying Belizean Carlton Flowers. The couple resided in Georgeville and owned a farm on the Mountain Pine Ridge road.

“For the 31 years I had you I could never ask for a better mother!!  Your love keep me going and change so many lives across the world.  Your mom da the best your mom wicked she cool…  All words people would tell me and I would already know because she is my mom and she enjoyed every second on this earth,” her son Benji Flowers said on social media.

Barbara was also the smiling face at Back to my Roots gift shop on Burns Avenue in San Ignacio that promoted amazing Belizean souvenirs. She was well loved for her calm, soothing, friendly and encouraging personality.

Former student, Giselle O’Brien said, “I remember the way she made me feel – she inspired confidence, encouraged spontaneity, and always, ALWAYS, smiled wide.”

Many former students and friends have taken to Facebook to extend sympathies to her family and friends.

Breaking Belize News (BBN) joins in extending condolences to her family and friends.
