Ministry of Infrastructure Development to transport long, heavy bridge beams on Philip Goldson Highway, Sarteneja Road from August 22-28; advises motorists to exercise caution

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: If you’re driving on the Philip Goldson Highway and the Sarteneja Road next week, do exercise caution as long and heavy bridge beams will be transported from Ladyville to the Laguna Seca near Sarteneja.

“The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH), through its construction contractor for the Corozal to Sarteneja Road Project, M&M Engineering Consultants Ltd., informs the public that fifteen extremely heavy bridge beams (5 measuring 131ft and ten measuring 99ft long) will be transported on the Philip Goldson Highway from Ladyville to the southern approach of the Laguna Seca Bridge on the Sarteneja Road,” said a MIDH press release issued on Thursday.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) said the transportation will take place from Monday, August 22, to Sunday, August 28.

The MIDH advises drivers to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution when approaching the heavy equipment transporting these reinforced concrete beams.

“Drivers are asked to always follow traffic warnings and the instructions of escorts as these beams may take up the entire width of the Philip Goldson Highway,” said the MIDH.

The MIDH said the ten 99-ft beams will be transported via the Philip Goldson Highway, Orange Walk Town Bypass, San Estevan Road, Progresso Road, and Copper Bank Road.

The five 131-ft beams will be transported via the Philip Goldson Highway, Orange Walk Town Bypass, San Estevan Road, Progresso Road, Copper Bank Road, Little Belize Road, Chunox Road, and Sarteneja Road.

The MIDH said they thank everyone “for their kind cooperation in abiding by these safety precautions and by exercising due care and attention when encountering these extraordinary loads on the highway”.
