By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Almost 500 Cuban doctors will be sent to the Calabria region in Italy as part of a broader program that sends surplus medics from Cuba to countries in need, Reuters report.
Calabria has reportedly been suffering from a shortage of doctors since 2010.
“All the regions are trying their best to hire doctors but are not finding any,” Cubadebate cited Calabrian President Roberto Occhiuto as saying. “This problem is much more serious in Calabria.”
Cuba will send 497 doctors of different specialties to the region in the coming months starting in September.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, about 40 countries in 5 continents received Cuban medics.
