By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Morena Inc will supply 12 million doses of its COVID-19 Omicron-targeted vaccine to Canada, Reuters report.
In 2021, the Canadian Government and Moderna entered a supply deal for the COVID-19 vaccine for 2022 and 2023, with the contract allowing access to new vaccine adaptations.
The agreement allowed for the company to convert 6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, that targets the original virus to an Omicron-containing bivalent vaccine.
In addition, Canada will purchase 4.5 million doses more of the Omicron-containing candidate.
As the virus evolves, health experts say that immunization continues to provide protection but vaccine effectiveness is being questioned with newer variants.
