By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 24-year-old Belize City resident has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following a charge of burglary.

Selvin Linarez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with breaking into a business on Hyde Street and stealing cash along with an assortment of jewelry, to a total value of $1,691.00. Reports are that he was identified clearly via surveillance footage.

Despite the evidence against him, Linarez pleaded not guilty to the charge. He went on to say that he had no knowledge of any burglary committed at the business.

The prosecution asked the court to consider the safety of the complainant, as he would likely interfere with her if granted bail. The prosecution also noted that Linarez owes the court over $1,000 in an unpaid fine for a State of Emergency (SOE) violation.

Linarez was remanded to prison until October 18, 2022.
