By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was spared his first encounter with crack cocaine over the weekend when police busted him with the drug on him.
Forty-four-year-old Jason Velasquez appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with a single count of possession of controlled drugs, for 0.1 grams of crack found in his possession during a police search.
Velasquez wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge, telling the court that it was his first time buying the drug.
For the guilty plea, Velasquez was given a fine of $200 plus a $5.00 cost of court which he was given until November 22, 2022, to pay. In default, he will spend two months in prison.
On Sunday, August 21, police at a checkpoint near Pitts Alley, say they saw Velasquez walking suspiciously around 10:00 p.m.and decided to search him.
