By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man who stands accused of choking his girlfriend is out on bail.

The 31-year-old victim told police that her boyfriend, 25-year-old Anthony Myers, approached her while she was in front of a shop on August 15, demanding money and when she refused to give him any, he began throwing pint bottles at her. The victim said he left but came back later with the same request and when she refused a second time he began choking her.

She said that during the attack her 10-year-old son picked up a pint bottle and threw it at Myers, which caused him to let her go.

Myers appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 22, where was charged with common assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and since there was no objection to bail, it was offered to him in the sum of $500 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet.

Myers is due back in court in October.
