International News: 2 children dead after attempting to cross Rio Grande

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: U.S. officials say that 2 children are dead and a baby is in a critical condition after they attempted to cross the Rio Grande on Monday, NBC reports.

The children were part of a migrant group that was crossing the river from Mexico into the United States/

Authorities say that a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl died while attempting to cross on Monday.

A 2-month-old baby boy was taken to hospital in critical condition after border patrol agents rescued him.

U.S. officials say that there is currently a decline in arrests of undocumented migrants after records reached an all-time high in May.

Though officials continue to warn against the dangerous journey, thousands of migrants continue to trek north in hopes of finding the “American dream”.
