International News: Guyana records first case of Monkeypox

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Monday, health officials in Guyana reported the first case of Monkeypox, Loop reports.

Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony said that there is only 1 case in the country and the patient is in a stable condition.

“That patient should be discharged, once everything goes well. So, we don’t expect a lot of cases,” he added.

The patient is currently in isolation at a medical center and his close contacts have been placed on quarantine.

In addition, health officials say they will be vigilant for persons who may have Monkeypox and COVID-19.

The Health minister also noted that Guyana now has the capacity to test for the virus.

To date, over 42, 000 cases of Monkeypox have been reported in 95 countries.
