‘Tonight, we will stand for our country proudly’ – Verdes of tonight’s game against El Salvador’s Alianza

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes are out for revenge on Wednesday night against Salvadoran champions Alianza in the return leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf League’s Round of 16.

“It’s game day. Tonight, we will stand for our country proudly,” Verdes wrote on social media early on Wednesday.

“We will let Central America recognize and respect us.”

“In the last match we were crippled in the second half when they took away our general in the defense. Joining us for this match we have 2 of Belize’s best,” said the Green Machine.

And indeed, after losing veteran defender Everal Trapp to a red card in the 47’ minute the team were rendered weaker with Alianza taking advantage of the numerical superiority and nailing goalkeeper Woodrow West twice to take the 2-0 win. To counter Verdes have added the services of Belizean midfielder Denmark Casey Jr and striker Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Gentle.

“We fear none and we will do battle like the champions and Green Machine that we are. Last night we trained at the match stadium and our boys are comfortable, confident and are ready to leave their hearts on the pitch.”

On Tuesday, they trained at the Deportivo FESA facilities and in the evening, they did the usual light training session at the Cuscatlán Stadium.

“Verdes FC, One Team. One Heart, One Nation, Belize,” said Verdes as they got ready to play the game of their lives on Salvadoran soil on Wednesday.

The match at the Estadio Monumental Cuscatlán kicks off at 8:00 pm.
