By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National Football champion Sabrina Eiley is at Corban University in Salem, Oregon, United States, where she will be studying for a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Eiley received a partial athletic scholarship at Corban and will play for the Corban Warriors.

Eiley travelled to the United States after leading her team Sagitun GIRLZ to the National Amateur Women’s League title. She has also played for the Belize Women’s National Football Team.

The 5’3″ Belizean midfielder is a welcome addition to the Corban Warriors, said the Corban University website.

“Eiley becomes yet another highly decorated international player to attend Corban University, as she racked up the recognition while attending the University of Belize in her home nation,” said Corban University.

“Eiley is a three-time Association of Tertiary Level Institutions in Belize (ATLIB) Female Football League Champion, three-time Independence Junior College Runner-Up, and represented her country on the Belize National Football teams on six different occasions, including two appearances as the Team Captain for the U17 and U20 teams. She is the fifth member of her family to make any Belize National Football team, and the second woman to do so.”

Women’s Football Director at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Iris Centeno says the FFB’s drive to get academic scholarships for Belize’s young footballers, particularly the women, is a drive that should be applauded.

“We keep being proud of our biggest initiative this year,” said Centeno.

“2022 saw many of our girls getting the chance to continue their education and playing football internationally. We are so happy to see them start their new adventure,” Centeno said.

“Look at our midfielder Sabrina Eiley rocking her team jersey and all excited about her new venture. Make us proud Sab.”
