Orange Walk man charged for sexually assaulting 10-year-old girl while awaiting a trial for rape, still granted bail

By Breaking Belize News: A 28-year-old Orange Walk man who already has a pending case for the rape of a 16-year-old girl against him in Benque Viejo, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week, faced with another sexual assault charge, this time for a 10-year-old girl.

Leon Lamb appeared unrepresented on Monday, accused of inappropriately touching the minor’s shoulders and mouth. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the prosecution adamantly objected to bail, noting that the incident amounts to Lamb’s fourth accusation of a sex crime.

Despite Lamb’s record and the prosecution’s objections, the Magistrate granted him bail. His bail comes with the conditions of routinely signing into a police station, not leaving the jurisdiction without permission and he must maintain a minimum of 100 yards away from the complainant.

Lamb, however, could not meet his bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October.
