By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 22-year-old Mahogany Heights man will have to go to trial over a charge of drug possession after the prosecution rejected his guilty plea this week.
Eric Thompson appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, answering to a charge of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another, with respect to a bag containing 257 grams (just over half a pound) of marijuana found on him during a police search.
In court, Thompson tried to plead guilty to the lesser charge of possession simplitica (simple possession) however, considering the quantity he was found with, the prosecution decided to reject his plea.
He was granted bail in the sum of $2,500 plus one surety of the same, which he was able to meet, but before he could, he had to pay the court y $150 towards his old debt of $605. He was able to make the payment.
Thompson is due back in court on October 19.
