Victim in Belmopan traffic accident on Wednesday is an American citizen

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Police reports confirmed that the man who died in the road accident on Wednesday in Belmopan was 48-year-old American citizen James Steven Savarda from California.

According to the police, Savarda lost control of his 2014 Audi SUV on the Hummingbird Highway between miles 47-48 in Belmopan running into a drain and smashing into the culvert in front of Bravo Motors. He was travelling towards the George Price Highway.

Police said they received news of the accident at approximately 4:45 pm and that the Emergency Response Technicians who arrived on the scene shortly afterward reported he had no pulse. Savarda was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan and was declared dead at 5:53 pm.

Savarda’s Audi entered the country on August 17 and was to leave by September 16. The vehicle which was insured upon entry to the country was extensively damaged in the accident.

The police reported that all properties were secured from the vehicle which was then taken to the Police National Training Academy in Belmopan.

Police said a postmortem examination was to be done on Savarda’s body.
