Did cops try to set up Jasmine Hartin to die at police station?

Posted: Friday, August 26, 2022. 4:37 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Daily Mail (UK) has published an unverified claim by Jasmine Hartin that, while detained for questioning in an alleged murder plot against the Commissioner of Police and Director of the Family Court, cops tried to trick her into leaving her jail cell so that they could kill her and claim she was trying to escape.

Hartin, 33, says ‘corrupt’ police in Belize City unlocked her cell in the middle of the night on May 19 and motioned her towards a back door – insisting she was free to go. But she refused, telling officers: “…not a chance in hell. I know exactly what you’re up to, you guys will shoot me in the back.” The unnamed officers responded that she was “smart.”

Hartin, who also revealed that she plans to sue the Police Department for false imprisonment, also alleges that she was kept without “food or water and they made me clean out the toilet with my bare hands.”

This week, Commissioner Williams told reporters that they could find no credible evidence to support the allegations against Hartin in relation to himself or Magistrate Dale Cayetano, who oversaw Hartin’s child custody battle with ex-partner Andrew Ashcroft, the son of Britain’s Lord Ashcroft. He awarded custody of their twin son and daughter to Andrew six days after Jasmine was first detained; Andrew and the kids subsequently left for the Turks and Caicos Islands. Jasmine is also appealing that decision.

Hartin awaits trial in a case of manslaughter by negligence against father-of-five Jemmott, who was mysteriously shot in the head with his own service pistol. Hartin maintains the gun went off by accident as Jemmott showed her how to reload it while the pair were drinking and ‘socializing’ on a secluded pier close to the swanky Alaia hotel, which she operated with Ashcroft until the shooting.

The allegation appeared to stem largely from former associate Lionel Neal who claimed to overhear Hartin expressing hope her tormentors would all die; she maintains it was entirely made up to influence the child custody case.

Hartin told the Daily Mail, “If there is any silver lining to all of this, it’s exposing the corruption that is endemic here in Belize. If they want to get at you, they will simply make something up. It’s surreal but that’s precisely what happens.”

Hartin is due back in court in September.
