By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Ex-pats from around the world visit Belize and fall in love with its culture, food, people and majestic scenery.
That is why the family of Alabama retiree, Rodney Rushing,66, says that his moving to Belize was a dream come true, according to WSFA 12 News.
Rushing lived in Corozal with his 2 dogs for about 7 weeks before he was brutally killed on August 17, 2022.
His sister, Carla McLean says that her brother wanted a better life and then went to a place that was the end of his life.
“(He was) wanting a better life and then went to a place that was the end of his life,” McLean said.
“I think it may have been somebody he confided in. I don’t think Rod went around waving money, because he wasn’t like that,” she added.
Rushing’s family is speaking to the U.S. Embassy in Belize and Belizean law enforcement authorities to find answers.
In addition, Rushing’s sister says that she is afraid the case will be forgotten.
“People get hurt. They get shut up. They get paid off and sometimes taken out – I’ve been hearing that,” McLean said.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist in taking Rushing’s body back to the U.S.
