By Benjamin Flowers: Christine Perez has been crowned Ms. Mahogany Heights 2022.

Perez, who represented cultural icon Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price, emerged victorious at the Ms. Mahogany Heights pageant, distinguishing herself from among eight contestants. The pageant took place last night on the St. Agnes Anglican School compound.

Perez thrilled the crowd with her stage presence, and impressed judges with a monologue on the legacy of George Price, ending with a cultural dance for her talent.

Following her victory, Perez told Breaking Belize News that the win was the culmination of months of rigorous training that brought her to tears on numerous occasions. Perez said that she had to curtsey first thing in the morning as she woke up, and before every activity in her daily life. He also practiced her entire pageant routine from start to finish every day.

“I cried a lot because I was getting frustrated with everyone, but I must say that God and my mom brought me through it,” Perez said.

She said that she accepts the responsibility as being an ambassador for her village but also hopes to be a mentor, spiritual guide and inspiration to young girls.

“I want to help young ladies to be themselves and be unique, but I also want them to know that Christ is their leader. I want to teach them about God and the love He has for them through the youth ministry, and I also want to be an advocate for mental health,” Perez said.

Perez added that her next pageantry aspiration is to vie for the title of Queen of the Bay. First runner-up for the title was Shevana Galvez, who represented cultural icon, Governor General Dame Froyla Tzalam.

Pageant Organizer Sherlette Gamboa said that the pageant rekindled a sense of community among villagers, but also showed guests to the village that Mahogany Heights does not fit the negative stereotypes being circulated about the village.

Gamboa said that, following the pageant’s great success, those involved are committed to ensuring the pageant is held annually. She also noted that the intends to find outreach events to positively impact the lives of the young men in the village as well.

Breaking Belize News takes this time to congratulate Christine Perez on winning Ms. Mahogany Heights 2022, and hopes she will wear her crown and her faith with pride.
