Belize City Beacons capture XXX National Women’s Softball Championship at Rogers Stadium

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Beacons beat Belmopan’s Play Chunes 5-2 in the final to capture the XXX National Women’s Softball Championship at Rogers Stadium in Belize City on Sunday.

The championship, which featured the eight best teams in the country, was hosted by the Belize Softball Federation.

The Beacons were led by pitcher Shadalee Ho who was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Belize Bank E-kyash Bulldogs secured third place on a 7-0 win over Guinea Grass’ Double G.

Apart from Shadalee Ho winning the MVP, Most Stolen Bases was collected by Arneek Baptist (Beacon) – 7, Most Runs Batted In (RBIs) was claimed by Sharette Vernon (Belize Bank E-Kyash Bulldogs) – 6, Highest Batting Average was taken by Kelsey Robinson (Belize Bank E-Kyash Bulldogs) – 0.666, the Ashey Lucas trophy went to Play Chune Girls) – 15, and Most Wins also corresponded to Shadalee Ho (Beacon) -3.

The Belize Softball Federation said the XXX National Women’s Softball Championship was opened by Brenda Johnson Gabourel, a member of the 1972 Gold Medal Belize Team at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Johnson also threw the ceremonial first pitch.

The teams were split into two groups.

Group A featured Play Chune Girls, Beacon, Crooked Tree, and San Lázaro Bravers.

Group B was made up of the Belize Bank Bulldogs, Roaring Cree’s Grace Kennedy, and Guinea Grass’ Double G.

The following were the results prior to the Final and Third-Place games.

Game 2 Guinea Grass “Double G” 5-4 Double Head Cabbage “Unity”

G-4 Beacon 18-0 San Lazaro

G-5 Double G 5-4 Roaring Creek

G-7 BzBk Bulldogs 21-0 Double G

G-8 Crooked Tree 17-1 San Lazaro

G-9 Roaring Creek 14-4 DHC Unity

G-10 Beacon 7-1 Bpn Play Chunes

G-11 BzBk Bulldogs 11-1 DHC Unity

G-12 Beacon 7-0 Crooked Tree

The Belize Softball Federation said it thanked “all the donors, sponsors, technical staff, team players, coaching staff, umpires, security personnel and fans who all contributed to making the XXX National Women’s Championship a successful softball event”.
