International News: Man diagnosed with monkeypox, COVID-19 and HIV at same time

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: An Italian man is believed to be the first person to be diagnosed with Monkeypox, COVID-19, and HIV at the same time, ABC 7 reports.

Health experts say that it is uncommon for someone to be diagnosed with Monkeypox and COVID-19 at the same time.

In addition, there is no known documented instance of a person being diagnosed with all three infections at once.

The patient, a 36-year-old returned from a 5-day trip in Spain in June 2022.

Just a week after he returned to Italy, he began experiencing symptoms that included fever, sore throat, and headache. He also started noticing unusual rashes on his arm and body.

After being admitted, he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and Monkeypox. Additional testing revealed that he also had HIV.

Health officals are closely looking at this case but say there is not yet enough evidence to say if having all 3 viruses at once further aggravates the patient’s condition.
