By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-even-year-old Jason “Jungle Rat” Sanchez has been found guilty of the 2014 murder of 34-year-old Emmerson Arnold.

Sanchez received his guilty verdict in the Supreme Court today before Justice Herbert Lord.

The trial began back in March 2021 and continued until May before taking a long pause and resuming again in May 2022. Sanchez was originally represented by Attorney Sheena Pitts but was later represented by Oscar Selgado.

The prosecution had 12 witnesses scheduled to testify, but only 11 actually did so; one witness later refused to testify out of fear.

Sanchez had given an unsworn statement in his defense, simply claiming that he was not the one that shot Arnold six times in the back on the night of November 28, 2014.

Sanchez’s sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 17.
