By Aaron Humes: The Senate of Belize is meeting in special session today to consider and approve multiple bills and resolutions coming from the House of Representatives.
The Senate is considering the appointment of Dorothy Bradley as Acting Auditor General for a further two-year period despite aired public concerns about her management style.
It is also taking up supplementary appropriations for emergency road funding and other projects of the Government of Belize, including creating a new land development at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway and establishing fuel subsidies for bread, flour and buses.
The enabling legislation and supplementary for the payment of a $76 million debt to Belize International Services Limited (BISL) for the takeover of the Merchant Marine and International Business Companies Registries, later ruled unlawful by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), is also being considered.
The meeting begins at nine this morning and we will have highlights as the day progresses.
