By Aaron Humes: Big 7 Travel, which promotes itself as a one-stop shop for travel and experience guides for the budget traveler, has picked perennial favorite Ambergris Caye, Belize District, as one of the top 50 islands in the world and in fact among the top twenty – ranked number 17.
The website’s blurb points to “some of the world’s best snorkeling,” “an epic party scene,” “endless white sandy stretches, waters teeming with marine life and mangrove-lined lagoons, there are upmarket hotels, bustling beach bars and party hotspots.”
Among islands in the region, Ambergris placed better than the likes of Barbados but lost out to Jamaica and Anguilla for top spot in the region; Mauritius was first overall.
Big 7 notes that Ambergris Caye is Belize’s largest island and is anchored next to the Barrier Reef which continues to draw hordes of visitors on an annual basis.
