“Heavy rains have made a bad situation much worse:” Ministry of Infrastructure Development to begin “major works” on George Price Highway near Lord’s Ridge Cemetery

Posted: Tuesday, August 30, 2022. 11:15 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing has announced that “major works” will soon be conducted on the stretch of the George Price Highway between Miles 1 and 2 at the western edge of Belize City.

The area is heavily trafficked and was concreted a few years ago under works done by the Belize City Council.

However, the Ministry reports that the work has eroded, and that “Heavy rains have made a bad situation much worse.”

The Ministry, therefore, asks “all motorists to exercise extreme care when driving” in the area, adding, “We thank you for your patience, and remind you to drive carefully, and slowly, on that stretch of road.”

The George Price Highway between Belize City and Belmopan is the subject of a larger contract of rehabilitation, after the stretch from Belmopan to Santa Elena was completed last year.
