Minister of Health and Wellness meets with nurses of Southern Regional Hospital

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard met with the staff of the Southern Regional Hospital.

On Monday, nurses from health centers around the country protested with walkouts at the Western Regional Hospital and Corozal Community Hospitals.

Nurses say they have had a great deal of their overtime deducted from them via a “short hour deduction” which has not been explained to them.

In addition, the nurses expressed their concern about having to “stretch” the medication at health centers among other working conditions.

On Monday evening, Bernard issued a statement pledging to meet with health workers to address their concerns.

“As the Minister, my duty is to listen to them and find solutions to their concerns. I believe nurses and doctors were also pleased to have us there to listen to them. Many of their issues will be addressed forthwith and others will be able to be addressed as we go along. My commitment to the team is that we must ensure that their working environment is conducive,” he said in a statement today.
