Parents concerned over Student bus situation in Santa Familia, Cayo

Posted: Tuesday, August 30, 2022. 9:06 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Parents in Santa Familia, Cayo are concerned about the student bus situation in their village.

According to reports, there is only 1 bus and it does not have the capacity to take all the students (mostly high school students) from the village to San Ignacio.

A video emerged showing some students being left behind in the village and another video shows a separate incident where students are left behind at the bus stop in front of Sacred Heart College.

The person taking the video speaks to the bus driver who explained that the bus does not have the capacity and he could be stopped by traffic authorities if the bus is overloaded.

The students left behind have to find other ways to reach school or home, paying for taxis which is quite expensive for students on a budget.

The Santa Familia Village Council has issued a statement saying that it is aware of the situation and that Area Representative, Orlando Habet will meet with the Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca to address the issue.
