International News: El Salvador confirms 1st case of Monkeypox

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Tuesday, Salvadoran authorities confirmed the 1^st case of Monkeypox in the country, Prensa Libre reports.

The patient is a 28-year-old woman who had contact with people who had arrived in the country from the U.S.

Health authorities say that all precautions are being taken.

“The first case of monkeypox in the territory is announced. It is a 28-year-old female patient,” Health Minister Francisco Alabi said.

“We have taken all the measures and we are following up on all its links. This is important in order to give a comprehensive approach”, he said.

Symptoms of the viral disease include fever, intense headache, swelling of the lymph nodes, back pain, muscle ache, lack of energy, and/or rash.

The public is reminded that anyone experiencing these symptoms must immediately isolate and call their health center before visiting.
