By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Thirty-one children in the United States have tested positive for Monkeypox, Fox News reports.
In July, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that preliminary evidence suggests children younger than 8 could develop a more severe illness if infected with Monkeypox.
There are 18,989 cases of Monkeypox in the U.S. and 51, 257 cases around the world, according to the CDC.
On Tuesday, health officials in Texas confirmed the first death of a person diagnosed with Monkeypox in the U.S.
The patient was an adult resident of Harris County who was severely immunocompromised.
The public is reminded that anyone experiencing these symptoms: fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes, chills, a rash that can look like pimples or blisters, respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough) must immediately isolate and call their health center before visiting.
