Nago Bank water catchment in Belize Rural inaugurated on Thursday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Nago Bank water catchment in Belize Rural was inaugurated on Thursday and handed over to Los Pequenos Agricultores y Ganaderos de Nago Bank Cooperative.

“The event which took place at the Nago Bank Community in the Belize District, comes through a call for project proposal from the United Nations Development Project’s Global Environment Fund Small Grants program in the late 2020, where the Department of Cooperative conceived a partnership with the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology (BEST),” said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, Enterprise.

“The water catchment which is valued at a total of $9000 Bz dollars is designed to assist the cooperative in making the investment to enable their members to adapt and be more resilient to climate change.”

In representation of the reduction of the effects of climate change, two mahogany trees were planted.

After that, 125 vegetable crates were presented to the Chairman of the Nago Bank Cooperative from the Resilient Rural Belize Officer Joe Lisbey as part of the RRB commitments to farmers.

Several high-ranking persons were present for that handing over, including the Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture Servulo Baeza, Area Representative for Belize Rural North Marconi Leal, Registrar of Cooperative Gareth Murillo, Acting Managing Director from the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology Michelle Longsworth, National Coordinator at GEF Small Grants Program UNDP Leonel Requena, Members of the Pequenos Agricultores y Ganaderos de Nago Bank Cooperative, and Technical Officers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperative and Resilient Rural Belize.
