By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has guaranteed revelers and onlookers for Saturday’s Carnival Road March that police will ensure the event goes off safely.
“I have seen some of the information on social media; people saying that they won’t go to Carnival again and some will stay away, but I want to assure the public that the Police will be in full readiness and in full force on Carnival Day, which is this coming Saturday, to ensure the safety of those persons who will participate or be onlookers of the Carnival parade,” he said, addressing Tuesday night’s shooting of Dixson Ramirez in the Pelican Street area which took place during the final night of Mas Band judging.
Police on mobile patrol were tipped by a fellow officer that the suspect was fleeing the shooting scene on Pelican Street Extension. After a chase and exchange of gunfire the suspect and the alleged weapon used were recovered without injury near Seagull Street, while the victim remains in treatment.
