Benque Viejo del Carmen observes National Flag Day

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize observes National Flag Day on September 1 starting the September Celebrations, and Benque Viejo del Carmen is no exception.

“Happy National Flag Day B E L I Z E, September 1st, 2022” said the Benque House of Culture in a social media post on Thursday.

“We take pride in our Belizean Identity, we salute all Belizeans home and abroad as we look forward into the grand patriotic month in Belize!”

A Flag Raising Ceremony organized by the Benque Viejo Town Council and the September Celebrations Committee was held in front of the Town Hall.

Guest speaker David Ruiz, a nationally renowned author, artist, and former Dean of John Paul II Junior College spoke on the origin and symbolisms of the Belize National Flag.

Present at the Flag Raising Ceremony on occasion of National Flag Day, were Mayor Jorge Rosales, town councillors, members of the Police Department, Flor de la Feria Shivany Cunil, and students and teachers of Mopan Technical High School from Benque Viejo del Carmen and Alvin Young High School from San Jose Succotz.

The BDF Second Infantry Battalion hoisted the Belize National Flag.

Belize’s September Celebrations this year are being held under the theme ‘Valiant & Bold, Proud & Strong, Belize Rebounds @ 41’.
