Danielle becomes 1st Hurricane of the Atlantic Season

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Danielle has become the first hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Danielle was upgraded to a hurricane today just under 900 miles west of the Azores.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Danielle is forecast to meander over the open Atlantic during the next couple of days, then slowly turn toward the northeast early next week.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

Hurricane Danielle poses no threat to land at this time.
