Eleven rural roads in Toledo to receive immediate attention – Engineers, equipment and personnel deployed by Infrastructure Development Ministry

Contributed by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing: The Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing (MIDH) informs the public of its road repairs action plan to improve roads in the Toledo District affected by inclement weather and have been further damaged with continued usage by heavy vehicles over the past few days.
Senior technical staff met this morning to develop an action plan which has been approved for immediate implementation. The action plan involves mobilizing three road engineers from Belmopan along with road maintenance operators and equipment from the MIDH Stann Creek Road Maintenance Unit. This team will mobilize today to Toledo for seven days in the first instance to address eleven roads identified for immediate repairs. The team will partner with five suitably equipped road contractors who will complement the efforts to restore adequate access to the identified roads. These are:

1. Boom Creek Road
2. Conejo Road – Sunday Wood
3. Sunday Wood – Crique Sarco
4. Sunday Wood – Corazon (bypass
5. Corazon Road – Otoxha – Dolores – Machakilha
6. Santa Cruz – San Jose Bypass
7. Santa Teresa – Mabil Ha – San Lucas – Corazon
8. San Antonio – Crique Jute – San Jose.
9. Laguna Road
10. Aguacate Road
11. Monkey River Road

Additionally, as part of the MIDH’s work plan, several major roads are proposed for upgrading during the remaining period of this fiscal year.
The ministry reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to do whatever is necessary to ensure adequate and safe road access for residents, the wider motoring public and especially students in the Toledo District.
The ministry also informs the public that the Toledo District has 379 miles of roadway with most of the gravel-surfaced roads situated in remote rural areas. The public is, therefore, encouraged to assist the ministry by alerting the chief executive officer or its district branch in Punta Gorda Town of poor road conditions which affect them and require urgent repairs.
