By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize fell 0-3 to Nicaragua in the CONCACAF Men’s U17 Qualifiers (CU17Q) on Friday night at the Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua, and fell out of qualifying possibilities.

Nicaragua now leads Group D with six points and are sure favorites to get past Antigua and Barbuda after 5-0 and 3-0 wins over the Turks and Caicos Islands and Belize.

The U-17 Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) was outclassed by the Nicaraguan national team, known as Pinoleros, that opened the score in the 24’ through Felix Cano. Then Juban Uriarte hit a brace in the 56’ and 69’.

So, while Nicaragua leads Group D, Belize drops to third place with only one point from their 1-1 against Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday.

Antigua and Barbuda move up to second with four points after edging Turks and Caicos Islands 1-0 on a goal by Tejhano Jarvis in the 45+1’.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are in fourth without a point after two losses.

Only the group winner will advance to the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship (CU17C) where they will join the top 16 ranked nations that qualified directly into the group stage of the Championship.

The U-17 BMNT may be out of the qualifying picture but can still hope for a win over Turks and Caicos on Sunday at 4:00 pm. Nicaragua and Antigua and Barbuda play at 7:00 pm.
