By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has reported that this Carnival Saturday appears to be incident-free so far.
“Carnival kicked off this morning with the J’ouvert across the city. Many Belizeans from all across the country came out to witness the first J’ouvert in 3 years. As was anticipated people came out in large numbers as participants and spectators,” he stated via social media.
As anticipation builds toward the Carnival Road March, the Commissioner repeated his reassurances that “…we will be out in full force to ensure the safety of all the participants and spectators of the carnival.”
And to those who wish to cause mischief, the Commissioner warned, “…[you] will be taken into safe custody until the parade is over. We also urge the general public to do their part to ensure your safety by reporting [any] suspicious person or activity to the police. Remember your safety is our priority and [prevention] is always better than cure.”
