Jerod Dawson committed to stand trial for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl – challenges the prosecution to prove the allegations

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has determined that Ladyville resident Jerod Dawson will stand trail for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Dawson appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, charged with one count of assault of a child and one count of assault by penetration of a female child.

Following his preliminary inquiry, the court committed Dawson to stand trial in the October session of the Supreme Court.

When asked if he had an alibi, Dawson told the court, “I nuh have no alibi. I just live in the same area. I am innocent. The proof is for the state. I am the accused.”

He was granted bail in the sum of $8,000 plus two sureties of $4,000 each. He is also to sign in at the Ladyville Police Station three times a week and must not go near the alleged victim or her family.

He is due to return to court on October 3.
